The task consisted of taking over a legacy business tool originally developed in Perl and fully rewriting it in PHP, Vanilla, with the objective of modernizing, maintaining, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the application. This project took place within a constrained environment, with a strong emphasis on service continuity, requiring the tool to remain fully interoperable with the existing applications within the information system.

The application manages high-volume, multilingual print requests and controls workflows for industrial Xerox equipment. The rewrite therefore required a deep understanding of the legacy system's operation, data exchange formats, business processes, and existing automation mechanisms. Particular attention was paid to the reliability of interactions with the existing ecosystem, as well as to accurately reproducing the historical business logic.

The work covered the design and development of new PHP components to manage the entire processing chain: reception and validation of requests, generation of work orders, orchestration of automated processes, management of scheduled business tasks, tracking of statuses, technical and functional logging, and the implementation of a secure administrative interface, accessible only to authorized users.

The project also included integration with SSO SAML to align with the client's authentication standards and secure access to the tool. A significant part of the mission focused on the migration and recovery of legacy data, with a strong focus on preserving historical records, ensuring process consistency, and maintaining compatibility with related applications.

This engagement required expertise in reverse engineering, custom application rewriting, system integration, business process automation, and access security, within a demanding context involving the constraints of an industrial client such as Xerox and those of an international institution such as the Council of Europe.
